Our instrument sterilisation process

At Daria Kuzmenko Podology Centre, your safety and comfort are our top priorities.

All disposable materials – including nail files, orange sticks, cotton pads, microbrushes, and sanding caps – are strictly single-use.

Every metal instrument undergoes a complete sterilisation cycle. Instruments are sealed in Kraft sterilisation pouches, which are opened in front of the client at the beginning of the procedure.

The founder of the centre, Daria Kuzmenko, explains each step of the sterilisation process:

1. Pre-treatment (disinfection):

• Immediately after use, instruments are immersed in a disinfectant solution.
• We use professional-grade products with a broad spectrum of action to eliminate bacteria, fungi, and viruses.
• The solution is prepared according to the manufacturer’s instructions, and exposure time is strictly observed.

2. Mechanical cleaning:

• After disinfection, visible contaminants such as blood or skin particles are carefully removed.
• An ultrasonic cleaner is used to eliminate micro-residue, even from hard-to-reach areas, effectively.

3. Rinsing:

• Instruments are thoroughly rinsed under running water to remove any traces of disinfectant.

4. Drying:

• All instruments are completely dried using a sterile towel.

5. Packaging for sterilisation:

• Instruments are placed into special Kraft sterilisation pouches.
• The packaging maintains sterility until the moment of use.

6. Sterilisation:

• A steam autoclave is used to ensure the destruction of all microorganisms.
• Standard settings: 121–134°C for 15–30 minutes, depending on the selected cycle.

7. Storage of sterile instruments:

• Once sterilised, instruments are stored in sealed pouches in a dedicated sterile area.
• Kraft pouches are opened in front of the client immediately before the procedure.

8. Sterilisation quality control:

• The autoclave’s performance is regularly monitored using test strips.
• A sterilisation log is maintained to document each cycle (date, time, cycle parameters, responsible staff member).
